Rain lashed Delhi-NCR throughout Friday with the city recording its highest December rainfall in the last 15 years and the mercury dropping sharply to 14.6 degree celsius, the weather department said.

Rain continued to lash several places in Delhi-NCR on Saturday, causing average daily temperatures to drop sharply. The IMD has issued a 'yellow' alert for the weekend, predicting more showers.

The rain, which started early on Thursday, has already made December 2024 one of the wettest in history, with total rainfall recorded at 42.8 mm, nearly five times the December average of 8.1 mm

The IMD has forecast a further drop in temperatures across the Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan regions over the next two days. Residents in the affected regions have been advised to prepare for colder conditions as the mercury dips further.

An 'orange' warning was issued in Delhi after rain lashed several parts of the national capital and adjoining areas on Friday. The rain is expected to continue in the city.

Delhi faced lightning, rain, and cold waves, with temperatures dipping to 8 degrees Celsius. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand experienced heavy snow and rainfall, causing roadblocks and difficult conditions.

According to the IMD, the active Western Disturbance and its interaction with the easterly winds are causing the rain.
