Why There's No Multiplayer in Doom: The Dark Ages - IGN Daily Fix

DOOM: The Dark Ages Drops Multiplayer In Favour Of 'Most Expansive' Campaign Ever
One thing, in particular, highlighted in the first round of previews - is the fact this game is a "strictly campaign" affair. In other words - don't expect multiplayer to feature. Here's exactly what Marty Stratton had to say about this ( via Eurogamer ):
Doom: The Dark Ages has no multiplayer: 'Our campaigns are, to a great extent, what people come to the modern Doom games to play'
But it was also a very different world then, one without the countless assortment of multiplayer shooter options we can choose from today. So while it's a little surprising as a matter of principle (or perhaps just nostalgia) that Doom: The Dark Ages doesn't have any multiplayer at all, it's also understandable.
Doom: The Dark Ages won't have multiplayer, but will have the "most expansive, most epic campaign ever"
During a Q&A tied in with this evening's Xbox Direct which ws atteneded by Eurogamer, Doom: The Dark Ages' executive producer Marty Stratton said the upcoming release will be a "strictly campaign" affair.
Doom: The Dark Ages Cut The Multiplayer
Doom: The Dark Ages will be strictly single-player, featuring no multiplayer content at all. The decision to focus solely on single-player was made to allow for unique experiences like the Atlan mech levels.
