'Severe' geomagnetic storm underway to ring in 2025 with Northern Lights displays possible across US
If you missed out on the Northern Lights on New Year's Eve, you'll have another chance Wednesday night as a "severe" geomagnetic storm is now underway and could bring Aurora displays as far south as Alabama and Northern California.

Space weather forecasts have the Northern Lights possibly upstaging New Year’s Eve parties across as many as 17 northern and Midwest U.S. states in the U.S. There's been a frenzy of solar flares from the sun's surface in the last few days, most notably an X-class event on Dec. 29 that hurled two clouds of charged particles in Earth's direction.
