Hubble telescope spots 'failed' starless galaxy known as Cloud 9
Astronomers say they have identified a new type of astronomical object that challenges traditional ideas about how galaxies form. Using data from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope, scientists studied a cloud of gas nicknamed Cloud-9.
Astronomers and scientists love Betelgeuse because it shines so brightly. While most stars appear as tiny points of light, Betelgeuse is large enough, and close enough, that we can study it in much greater detail. But this red supergiant star is strange, often shifting, dimming and brightening in our night sky.
I/ATLAS comet is the 3rd-ever object discovered that originated from outside our solar system. It's not a threat, approaches Earth in December 2025.
In 1974, the project’s Science Working Group recommended that the telescope be required to resolve details at least one-tenth of an arcsecond (or 1/36,000 of a degree of arc across the sky), and have a wavelength range from ultraviolet through visible to infrared light.
Taking advantage of a total lunar eclipse, astronomers using NASA's Hubble Space Telescope have detected Earth's own brand of sunscreen - ozone - in our atmosphere. This method simulates how astronomers and astrobiology researchers will search for evidence ...
It’s not often that telescopes suspended in space have landmark birthdays like this one. Launched on April 24, 1990, NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope has orbited at about 320 miles above Earth’s surface, according to the space agency’s website.

The Hubble Telescope appears as a tiny silhouette during a perfectly timed solar transit captured from Puerto Rico.
As the Hubble Space Telescope marks its 25th year in orbit, its successor is literally taking shape in a large room at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. There, engineers clad in white anti-contamination suits, masks and gloves are ...
