In a move that helps address a huge hole at first base, the New York Mets and infielder Jorge Polanco agreed Saturday to a two-year deal worth $40 million, league sources told The Athletic.
The Mets missed out on another late-inning reliever in free agency on Friday night. Tyler Rogers signed with the Blue Jays, agreeing to a three-year deal worth $37 million. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic was first to report Rogers landing in Toronto.
Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman revealed that his team only seriously considered signing Diaz after the Mets brought in Williams. “He was at the top of the list, but starting the offseason we just didn’t think it was that realistic,” Friedman told SportsNet LA on Friday after welcoming Diaz to Los Angeles.
