Jackson Merrill and Luis Arraez homered Wednesday as the San Diego Padres extended their franchise-record season-opening winning streak to seven games with a 5-2 win over the visiting Cleveland Guardians.

Jackson Merrill hit a two-run homer a few hours after finalizing a $135 million, nine-year contract and the San Diego Padres started 7-0 for the first time in their 57-season history by beating the Cleveland Guardians 5-2 on Wednesday.

The Guardians made it 5-2 in the eighth on Manzardo’s sacrifice fly. Steven Kwan opened the inning with a single and went to third on Ramirez’s double down the left field line. Manzardo delivered Kwan on a fly ball to left.
