Hughes Fire in LA County burns 10,000 acres, evacuations lifted as containment rises
Firefighters made progress on the more than 10,000-acre Hughes Fire Friday, which sent thousands fleeing after sparking near the Los Angeles County community of Castaic a day earlier.
Update: Hughes Fire 95% contained, 10,425 acres destroyed in Los Angeles County
Hughes Fire initially started 10:53 a.m. Jan. 22 in Los Angeles County. It has burned 10,425 acres after being active for four days. By Sunday evening, the fire crew succeeded in containing 95% of the wildfire. The cause is, however, still being investigated.

Two people were arrested for arson in separate incidents just outside the fire zone on Wednesday, according to the LAPD. In one incident, a citizen extinguished a fire in a tree and detained an arson suspect, police said. That suspect admitted to starting the fire because he "liked the smell of burning leaves," police said.
