The crime genre maestro and acclaimed filmmaker Barry Levinson talk about the true story of Frank Costello and Vito Genovese, the mobsters at the center of their latest collaboration.

Genovese was known for street crime and violence to get what he wanted. “He was more on the thug side of organized crime,” says Schumacher. He was an underboss to Lucky Luciano, who took control of the mafia in America in 1931 after killing the New York boss Joe Masseria.

Robert De Niro is renowned for his Mafia heavies, but in "The Alto Knights," he plays two real-life Mob bosses, Frank Costello and Vito Genovese.
