Clay Martin explained what he saw on the hit toward Patrick Mahomes that factored into Saturday’s outcome for the Houston Texans.
The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Houston Texans 23-14 on Saturday in the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes played decent, but not up to his usual standards, completing 16-of-25 passes for 177 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions.
Mahomes was then asked about accusations that he tries to draw teams into hits that will lead to a roughing-the-passer penalty. Fans have pored over video of the two roughing calls Saturday like it was the Zapruder film. Mahomes regretted one play on the sideline in which fans say he flopped. No flag was thrown.
There were several calls in the NFL's divisional round of the playoffs that drew scrutiny from broadcasters and fans alike over the weekend.
Patrick Mahomes drew highly debatable “Roughing the Passer” penalties in the first and third quarters against Will Anderson Jr. and Henry To’oTo’o, respectively. The latter’s infraction led to Mahomes throwing a pivotal touchdown pass to Travis Kelce that helped KC extend their lead to eight.
The Texans on Saturday get an opportunity to do what only three teams before them have done in the NFL playoffs: Stop KC Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

During Saturday’s home divisional-round victory over the Houston Texans, Mahomes threw an outstanding touchdown pass to tight end Travis Kelce as he was falling to the ground. Inside the NFL showed a mic’d-up Mahomes celebrating the fantastic throw-and-catch, a key moment that helped Kansas City get the playoff win.
Mahomes' added to his argument last weekend, with a divisional win against the Houston Texans that put him at 16 postseason wins as a starting quarterback, tying Montana for second-most all-time. Brady leads the way with 35, so Mahomes needs to keep up his winning ways a while longer before he can catch up, at least in that category.
Patrick Mahomes had another installment of "Mahomes Magic" during the Kansas City Chiefs' 23–14 divisional win over the Houston Texans on Saturday when the quarterback threw a touchdown pass while he was falling down to tight end Travis Kelce.
