BOSTON (AP) — Residents across the country from the Northern Plains to the tip of Maine are bracing for dangerously low temperatures as tens of millions of residents along the East Coast contend with a thick blanket of snow — and more snowfall in the forecast.

There's certainly no lack of winter weather across Ontario this week, with back-to-back storm systems bringing rounds of snow, gusty winds, and difficult travel to end off the month of January. Drivers are urged to continue to brace for the quickly changing and deteriorating conditions.

KYLE, Texas — In a rare sighting, a North American river otter was seen swimming this week in a Central Texas lake. According to a social media post from the city of Kyle, the animal was spotted Tuesday in Lake Kyle, roughly 22 miles southwest of Austin. The city said the sighting was a sign that more otters are returning to the area.

Lady Bird Lake water levels in Austin dropped two feet below normal level after a gate at Longhorn Dam failed during scheduled maintenance.

The water fell about 2 feet below normal Tuesday after a floodgate got stuck. This is at least the third time water levels have noticeably dropped in the last six months.

During scheduled work earlier on Tuesday, Jan. 28, one of nine gates at Longhorn Dam failed to close, causing the Lady Bird Lake level to begin dropping. The cause of the failure is under investigation.
