Amid the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration, Portland Police Chief Bob Day is clarifying his bureau’s role on immigration enforcement.

Officers described the victims as “armed protesters” when, in fact, they were unarmed traffic safety volunteers.

The Portland Police Bureau won’t help federal immigration enforcement efforts in the city, Chief Bob Day said in a statement Tuesday that reiterated existing policy against cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
