The Biden administration on Friday made one final push to expose what officials say is a rampant Chinese cyber-espionage campaign by identifying a company and a person allegedly behind a pair of damaging hacks aimed at senior US officials.

The executive order follows a ProPublica investigation that found Microsoft prioritized profit over security, leaving the federal government vulnerable to the largest hack in U.S. history. Vendors must now demonstrate that their products are secure.

The sanctions against a lone hacker and a private company are Biden’s final salvo against the Chinese government’s audacious recent cyberespionage.
