Chappy, a baby gray seal pup who was found on Feb. 16 stranded on the streets of New Haven, Connecticut, by police, has died after suffering severe digestive issues, according to the Mystic Aquarium who had been treating him since he was discovered last month.

The Mystic Aquarium announced on March 3 that Chappy, the baby seal found on a busy Connecticut street on Feb. 16, is dead. The seal was initially found "bright and alert and looking good," but caretakers later discovered that the baby animal had challenging digestive issues.

The gray seal, named “Chappy,” was admitted to the Mystic Aquarium’s Animal Rescue Clinic on Feb. 16 after being discovered near the downtown of New Haven, Connecticut. While he was initially recovering from dehydration, malnutrition, and mild pneumonia, he eventually succumbed to gastrointestinal issues.
