North Carolina’s death toll rose to 104 as a result of Hurricane Helene and the names of those who died have been released by the state Department of Health and Human Services. The most recent addition was for a motor vehicle crash in Mitchell County.

After walking for a couple weeks through southern Mexico with hundreds of other migrants, they accepted an offer from immigration officials to come to Acapulco with the idea they could continue their journey north toward the U.

North Carolina officials are sharing a comprehensive list of the names of those confirmed killed in Hurricane Helene for the first time since the storm ravaged parts of the state. Hundreds of people died across multiple states in the late September 2024 storm -- including at least 104 people in North Carolina alone.
