Bitcoin reached an all-time high near $85,000 on Monday, amid enthusiasm that digital assets may face a more friendly regulatory environment after Donald Trump, who is considered pro-crypto, won the U.

At this point, the prevailing view of Bitcoin is that it's digital gold. Like gold, it is inherently valuable because it is scarce, with a finite supply. Unlike gold, however, it is easily stored. The value of all the gold in Fort Knox can be held on a thumb drive. These features make it a great store of value.

Despite recent stagnation in Bitcoin's price, there's a compelling case to buy now for both short-term gains and long-term value.
