Every county faces Status Red weather warnings on Friday, as Storm Eowyn threatens disruption, damage and cancellations. The National Emergency Coordination Group has advised that all schools will close for the duration of the Red warning.
Storm Éowyn: When the Status RED and ORANGE weather warnings take effect in Mayo
The 'danger to life' Status Red Wind warning is valid for Mayo from 4am on Friday, January 24 until midday (12pm). Met Éireann says the storm will bring severe, damaging and extremely destructive gusts in excess of 130km/h. The Status Orange Wind warning is valid for the whole country from 2am on Friday until 5pm the same day.
Rare red warning in Scotland ahead of Storm Éowyn
The red warning will run from 10:00 to 17:00 on Friday and covers a large chunk of the central belt, some islands and parts of south west Scotland. Meanwhile the rest of Scotland is covered by amber or yellow alerts for a large part of the day.

Live weather radars show Storm Éowyn barrelling across the Atlantic as Ireland's first weather warnings come into effect in just a few hours. Cork, Kerry, Waterford and Wexford will be under a Status Yellow advisory for Rain from 9pm this evening until 5am on Friday morning.
