8PM SUNDAY - Here's how the radar may look over the next 36 hours. Widespread, heavier rain will move in across the Pee Dee and Border Belt late tonight and continue through the morning commute. Widespread rain that will be heavy at times will shift to the Grand Strand by late morning. Expect periods of heavy rain and storms the rest of the day and into the night. As much as 3-6" of rain will fall across the area. We've been pretty dry lately, but some flooding is possible, especially in low lyi

TUESDAY 4:30 PM RADAR UPDATE Scattered strong to severe storms are closing in on the area from the south and west. your chances for storms will ramp up after 5-6pm. A few storms could produce damaging wind and hail the size of quarters. It's unlikely we will see the very large hail (golf ball to tennis ball-sized) we experienced yesterday. Tornadoes are not expected. Even if storms are not severe, they will be capable of extremely heavy rainfall and frequent lightning. Bottom line, stay weather

A broken line of strong to severe storms is nearly 850 miles away. Subtle changes in its forward speed over the next 24 hours could have a big impact on when it arrives here. For now, all indications still point to a 2-8pm time frame. This is what the radar may look like. | Ed Piotrowski WPDE

FRIDAY 3PM SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE Here's how the radar may look as we head through the evening and overnight hours. There will likely be a broken line of showers and a few storms moving through the area between 8pm - 2am. As mentioned earlier, one or two storms will be capable of damaging winds. That risk is 5%. The risk of a brief tornado is only 2% which means almost everyone will NOT experience any severe weather. But because that threat is not zero, it's best to be safe and stay weather aware

Here's a radar loop of Hurricane Florence from 8am 9-13-18 through 8am 9-17-18 8am. Florence actually made landfall at Wrightsville Beach, NC on September 14, 2018, at 7:15am. Turtles move faster than this system did at times. | Ed Piotrowski WPDE

10:25pm At the moment, remarkably, there are no severe thunderstorm or tornado warnings anywhere across the south. That's a good thing! So far, there have been several tornadoes that touched down in MS and AL this afternoon and evening. Some have produced damage, but overall, not as many as feared. That too is a good thing. Hopefully, our severe weather risk will trend downward as well but for now, a substantial risk still exists for Thursday afternoon and early evening. See the Facebook LIVE pi

9:45 PM RADAR UPDATE - Goodness, rarely do you see a radar loop as extraordinary as this... A strong upper-level low-pressure system is sitting just south of the PeeDee, circulating bands of moderate to heavy fluffy snow around it. Unfortunately, the dry slot has returned for some across the Low Country and across parts of Georgetown County. It is extremely hard to know how far north this dry slot will move. For now, the snow continues for downtown Myrtle Beach and a huge part of our viewing are

Here's an idea of what the radar may look like Friday and Saturday. This radar simulation lines up nicely with the NHC forecast for soon-to-be Ophelia. On Friday, I expect a few showers in the morning with more scattered showers (especially near the coast) through the afternoon. Showers are likely Friday night. A few showers will linger into Saturday. A few spots could get 1-2" of rain but most areas receive less than 1" (not including today's rain). By far, the heaviest of the rain falls north

Here's what the radar may look like Wednesday through Thursday as #Idalia passes through. With a track close to the coast, it's possible the heaviest rain will fall inland from the coast. Precisely where is impossible to know 36-48 hours out but generally 3-6" of rain is expected across the area. Full update on Idalia within the hour. | Ed Piotrowski WPDE

4 PM FUTURE RADAR - Widespread rain continues across inland areas. As the coastal storm off the southeast North Carolina coast gradually drifts away, the rain will pivot back toward the coast before moving out to sea later this evening and overnight. With many locations already saturated, even moderate rainfall may cause ponding on roads and worsen minor flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Once the rain ends, I'll put together a list of rainfall totals. Good news...the weather this upco

Here's a look at what the radar may look like from tonight through Friday afternoon. While showers are possible Thursday, most of the rain falls Thursday night through Friday morning. No doubt the bulk of the widespread heavy rain will be over the western halves of North and South Carolina, where flash flooding is a really big concern, especially in the mountains. The farther east you go, the more likely rain will be in several bands capable of briefly heavy rain. For our area, quick-hitting ban

Here's what the radar may look like Friday into Saturday morning. Initially, the air is very dry Friday afternoon, so as spotty precipitation moves in, much of it will evaporate before reaching the ground. That evaporation, though, will cause the air to cool so when precipitation does reach the ground mid-afternoon or early evening, it'll likely be a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and rain inland and a little sleet and spotty rain along the Grand Strand. As we head through the evening and overnight,
